These are planning ranges from completed projects, not quotes. Species, finish, detail level, ceiling height and site conditions all move the number. Your written proposal is the binding price.
Cost Drivers
What moves your number
Two slat walls of identical size can differ by three times. Here is where that comes from, so you can steer it rather than discover it at proposal.
- Species. Walnut versus ash on the same wall is the single largest swing in most quotes.
- Solid versus veneer. On large surfaces, veneer often performs better and costs substantially less.
- Reveal spacing. Tighter slat spacing means more pieces, more milling and more installation time per square foot.
- Ceiling height. Anything above nine feet adds staging, handling and installation time, particularly overhead.
- Detail complexity. Curves, mitred returns, inlay, integrated lighting and grain matched sequencing all add shop hours.
- Finish. A clear coat is straightforward. A multi step stained and glazed finish is a different labor number entirely.
- Site conditions. Out of plumb walls, tight access and occupied homes all add install time.

Money Questions
Payment and terms
Is the consultation free?
Yes. The site visit, measurement, samples and a budget range are free. For larger projects a design retainer may apply for detailed drawings, and it is credited in full toward the project when you proceed.
Is your price fixed?
Yes. Your proposal states a fixed price for a defined scope. Changes happen only through written change orders you approve before the work proceeds.
What deposit do you require?
Typically 50 percent at contract signing to release material and shop time, with the balance due on completion after the punch list walkthrough.
Can I supply my own wood?
Sometimes. We will work with client supplied material where it is properly dried, free of metal and suitable for the application. We cannot warranty material we did not source, and we will tell you honestly if what you have will not perform.
Why is a small wall not proportionally cheaper?
Because the setup is the same. Drawing, milling setup, finishing and mobilizing a crew cost roughly the same for 80 square feet as for 200. This is why our smaller projects start around $2,400 rather than scaling straight down.
Do you price match?
Send the other quote and we will review it line by line. The gap is usually species grade, solid versus veneer, whether finishing is included, or whether installation was quoted at all.
